Some really great things...a couple not so much.

I bought this machine and was excited to get it. I really like Hello Kitty and near as I can tell this is the exact same machine as the Janome 1050. So picking the one with Hello Kitty on it was a no-brainer for me. The machine is quite light weight. The machine is inexpensive at only $300 and some of the parts such as the bobbin winder are made of cheap plastic. I am the person who took the photos of the machine and as you can see this makes a fabulous straight stitch. Stitches look really great and I immediately sewed a satin stitch on a fairly thick piece of material, not terribly dense just thick. This worked great. The satin stitch was beautiful. So I was tickled. The presser foot even lifts extra high to get those thick things in there.When sewing, this machine feels relatively solid. It didn't move around (even though it's light weight). No it's not 35 lb vintage singer but it held it's ground and wasn't "creeping" around the table or anything like that.I also really like the way you select the stitch #, width and length and how you can see what everything is set on. I've used many many different sewing machines and this one is relatively basic, but works well and is easy to change settings.The bobbin winder, even though is made of cheap plastic worked fine. I'm not sure how long this will last. So I was happily sewing along and decided to sew some stretchy knit fabric. First, this was not so good. The presser foot presses way too hard on the knit fabric and so it didn't feed right and stretched it all out. I think this can be remedied with a walking foot...but I didn't have one to try, YMMV. I could not see any way to make the foot pressure less.The heavy pressure on the fabric was not a deal-breaker for me. I was determined to just work with it and figure out what I needed to do to make things work right...different feet..different technique. The thing that ultimately made me send it back was that after about 3 days of using it, it started making a high-pitched whine when turned on. I'm sure it's the power transformer. We've all had them...you plug in something (like your phone charger) and it makes a terrible, high-pitched whine. Anyway, hopefully I just got a bad one.I considered just exchanging, however I ultimately decided that with both the whine *and* the foot pressure issues I will just keep looking for a machine which has the features I want. If you generally just sew quilters cotton, I'm guessing this machine will work really well for you. And again, I'm sure there are ways around the foot pressure thing.All in all a really decent machine, great price range, but maybe not quite as versatile as other machines. I truly don't believe you need to spend really big $$$ to get a great machine that works well and that you can have a great deal of fun sewing with. Again, I was *really* impressed with the stitch quality.Hope you guys enjoy.

I bought this, because my other machine was in the shop. I love Hello Kitty and thought to give this machine to my niece after my machine was repaired. When the machine was turned on it made a high pitched electronic whiny noise. It was just audible to someone with excellent hearing...that would be me. When I tried to sew, the machine sounded whinier and clunky. I am also a quilter, so when I tried to sew through several layers of fabric, the machine had a hard time. If I was to take a guess, I would say the manufacturers took the lowest powered motor, stuck it in the cheapest machine and put some Hello Kitty stickers on it. I love sewing, but not on this machine.
